A Running List of My Favorite Attention-Hacking Tactics of 2018

As a marketer, my eyes are always peeled for tactics other companies and organizations are using to get attention and brand exposure.

All great marketing follows the same patterns, and all great marketing patterns can be replicated.

Here are few of the attention-grabbing hacks that I’ve loved this year:

  • DISNEY – At the HackGT hackathon, Disney sponsored and hosted a lightsaber battle in which hundreds of students took part. By tapping into people’s youthful drives (and understanding their audience), Disney had a lot of attention from attendees who might benefit the company as interns or employees.
  • MONEY2020 – The leading fintech conference is hosting an “Amazing Race”-style competition in 5 people must race to Money2020 in Las Vegas using only one payment method: e.g. Team Crypto, traveling across the country using on cryptocurrency. So far the contest has generated great buzz for payments overall – but especially for crypto.

INTELLECTUAL CREDIT: Gary Vaynerchuk on the importance of attention.
