Haven’t you wondered about what it would be like to drop your career and try something different? Didn’t you have a bunch of things you “wanted to be when you grew up” that you haven’t tried (yet)?
I can answer “yes.”
In addition to all of the skills dabbling and multi-hat-wearing I already do, I scratch my itch for job variety with (informal) interviews. I’ll grill everyone from friends to professional contacts to strangers with questions about their work.
It occurred to me back in 2016 to start recording these kinds of conversations. Now, after several years of procrastination, I’ve got a new podcast project to share: The How To Be Anything Show.
The goal for this show is largely selfish: I want to continue learning the stories, skill paths, wisdom, and odds and ends of the world’s many different careers. I want to find out what it’s like to run a hot dog stand, to be a ski instructor, to run a construction company, and to be a banker. I could have these conversations for fun for the rest of my life, but I reckon I’ll start sharing them with you.
You can subscribe now and hear the first episode, my interview with a friend and former coworker who now leads Latin American technology sales at GitHub (Fear not – the audio quality is not so good here but will improve in future recordings).
