Interview the Interviewers

Sometimes you can get the most interesting stories when you ask storytellers to talk about themselves.

Today I interviewed a journalist who has been covering the blockchain industry for years and years (typically he interviews my company not the other way around), and in a crowded field of interviews I found this one to be one of my favorites.

Journalists, authors, and storytellers all get to experience their fields in intimate, interesting ways. And because they’re often the ones asking the questions, they get to know the people of a place or industry or community really well.

From this particular interview I got a look back at how someone built a career covering an entirely new technology, bootstrapping a journalistic position from the ground up. I got to hear about the work and principles behind his stories. And I got a fuller picture of the human being behind the articles my industry turns to.

If you get the chance to interview the interviewers, I highly recommend it. The people who are trained to ask the best questions do a wonderful job of giving good answers – when they’re asked.
