The Ultimate Late Night Office Playlist

If you aren’t staying at your office past midnight at least once in a while, are you really working at a startup?

I’ve written plenty before about my love of my late-night work sessions. When the office is empty, I get into my flow state, and nothing can stop me from getting things done. Having great snacks definitely helps.

Of course, one of the finest pleasures of the late-nighter is the ability to blast over-the-top music through the halls of your office with no consequences. A bit after midnight you enter a zone of not giving a **** what other people think of you / being fully alive. With no one around and a deadline to hit, who’s going to care if you’re listening to “Don’t Stop Believing” and singing along at full volume? No one, that’s who.

The absurdity, determination, and exuberance of the late-night work “sesh” should be matched by the music. That’s why during my most recent sprint I created just the playlist for you (and, if you’re lucky, any coworkers) looking for an epic soundtrack to 1 AM work.

This one blends pop punk (a little Fall Out Boy, a little Relient K, etc) , pop (Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody, “Shut Up and Dance”, etc), and classic rock (“Eye of the Tiger,” “Danger Zone,” etc) for a soundscape of shameless singalongs and laughs my true startup brothers and sisters can appreciate.

Shout-outs to the makers of the 2000s Pop Punk/Rock/Alternative and Classic Rock ’70s, ’80s, & ’90s playlists for giving me a lot of material to work with.
