More marketing podcasts exist than you could possibly listen to in one lifetime.
Fortunately for you, you have podcast reviewers like me to separate the wheat from the chaff. And fortunately for me, I have a much longer commute than I had last month.
The following are all podcasts that have brought me some unique value in presentation, interview quality, production, or content. Give them a try on your next drive!
With over 400 episodes, this podcast shows the breadth of the marketing topics you can learn. The hosts Neil and Eric have experience and insights into everything from more “traditional” marketing channels (SEO, event marketing, etc) to newer channels like Snapchat and Instagram.
Neil do a great job of condensing interesting ideas and advice down to around 4 minutes for each episode. I usually come away with at least one new tool, tip, or way of thinking that I want to use in my day-to-day marketing work.
They’re like candy – you can’t listen to just one. Here are a couple I’ve listened to recently:
While its hosted on your favorite podcast platforms, GMCwSEM (as I’m now calling it) is actually an audio course. The main idea? Help marketers get with it when it comes to email marketing.
Many businesses use email marketing now, but even in 2017 a lot of them aren’t using event-triggered automation (customer goes to page, X happens), personalization (Hi, Bob!), affinity and authority marketing (You’re a nerd about this, but I like you), or good lead magnets (no, I do not want another ebook). In ten episodes you could easily work through in an afternoon, GMCwSEM’s host Brian Clark does a dern fine job of remedying your email marketing shortcomings.
Did I mention Brian Clark is the founder of Copyblogger and CEO of marketing platform Rainmaker Digital? He knows what’s up.
Like many of the podcasts on this list, this show gets a snap judgment. It also doesn’t fit completely within the marketing category. But if I can listen to one episode and fall in love with a podcast, it’s a good bet that’s not a coincidence.
This show purports to be all about stories of personal and professional growth, so it often seems to draw growth-obsessed executives and marketing types from some of the world’s fastest growing companies.
The episode I heard featured a brilliant interview with Meghan Keany Anderson, Hubspot’s VP of Marketing. Guided along by insightful and creative questions from host John Bonini, Anderson shared some really interesting insights about the growing importance of off-site marketing: reaching users who now spend the majority of their attention in mobile social apps rather than desktop web browsers.
I’ll definitely be taking away some insights from this episode and digging into more. You should give it a shot – they probably have an interview with a marketer or company you’ll like:
Also not technically a podcast about marketing, but it is all about growing small companies. And if you’re a marketer, you know that growth – in all of its forms – is your job.
The thing that sets this podcast apart? Host Jay Acunzo asks spectacular questions – the kind you could expect from someone who 1) has had on-the-ground marketing experience and 2) is obsessed with business growth.
I recently finished his interview with Slack Head of Growth Fareed Mosavat, who shared what he’s learned as a full-time growth hacker with some really fast-moving companies, including not just Slack but also Instacart. There are some great thoughts here on the value and the how-to of user testing and good advice on defining key growth metrics.
