My Midtownish Things: With Apologies to “My Favorite Things”

With apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein , you can now imagine Julie Andrews* singing about everyone’s favorite part of Atlanta, in all of its silliness and excess and beauty.

Yuppies on scooters
And gentrification
King of Pops snacking and revitalization
Dog parks and hip bars and dancing that swings
These are a few of my Midtownish things
Breweries and Beltlines and Georgia Tech students
Runners and Shakespeare
And outdoor art placements
Ponce City Market and ice skating rinks
These are a few of my Midtownish things
Arcade-themed bar spots and knee-slapping improv
Graffiti once edgy but now city-sponsored
Everything old now shining like bling
These are a few of my Midtownish things
When the heat strikes
When the rent hikes
When the traffic’s mad
I simply pay more for my Midtownish things
And then I don’t feel so bad
*Julie Andrews performed “My Favorite Things” in the film The Sound of Music.
