Rage Against the Dying of the Year*

Not another year

Not a fate of shame

Another cycle of human days

Should not end with a smaller ambition

Not another year

The coming end carries word

That all that is undone before me

Can yet see mighty work

Not another year

With goals beyond my nerve

Not another trip around a sun

Which shines bright to shame small hearts

Not another year

But the one before me now

Though I fail I will not fail

To meet the fleeing year in fight

The chase goes on for two moons still

A hunter am I, with a year to kill
